Thorman happy at Thunder progress

Gateshead Thunder captain Neil Thorman believes the club is starting to settle into life in the Championship and is confident of progress this season.

Thunder follow up a first win of the season at Sheffield last week with a trip to league leaders Halifax and Thorman is adamant they can compete.

"On our day we can beat anybody," he told BBC Newcastle.

"All the teams are beating each other in the Championship, it's about how we turn up and set up for this weekend."

Thorman comes from a famous rugby league family, having graduated through the amateur Newcastle Eagles side with brothers Paul and Chris, who currently plays for Super League side Hull FC.

And the stand-off, who has two tries to his name for Thunder this season, admits the trio remain in close contact throughout the campaign.

"We're constantly checking up on each others scores and seeing how we got on," he added.

"I'll go down and watch as many games as I can of my brothers, but it's difficult because we play at the same time.

"We chat, we try not to talk about the technical side, we just talk about how we're getting on and how individually we're doing rather than the team."
