Leeds took advantage of a fragile Catalans defence at Headingley

Leeds Rhinos ran in eight tries to crush Catalans and maintain top spot in the Super League table.

Catalans started the better side and took the lead on three minutes when centre Steve Bell crossed.

But the Rhinos hit back with scores from Ryan Hall and Jamie Jones-Buchanan before Danny McGuire, Hall and Brent Webb scored just before half-time.

Thomas Bosc and Vincent Duport scored in the second but three more Leeds tries sealed the comfortable win.

Leeds coach Brian McClennan:
"We didn't get off to too flash a start but in the second quarter we really got cracking.

"Anyone who saw that 15 minutes will know we played some really nice football and scored some good tries. If we could be as clinical as that for 60 or 70 minutes every game, we would be pretty hard to beat.

"We defended reasonably well. They're a hard team to defend against because they are a big team and they have got some skill."

Catalans Dragons coach Kevin Walters:
"We got a lucky try early but we were never in the game I didn't think. It wasn't a very good performance from us.

"We didn't move forward from last week. We've taken a couple of steps back, which is really disappointing.

"We're not defending well and the scoreboard is reflecting that each week. I am very frustrated with our performances. I know we are a better side than we're showing.

"We have got to have a good hard look at ourselves from the top down to make sure we are all heading in the right direction.

"We're still not anywhere near where we need to be to compete with these teams and we need to be careful our season isn't over before it's started. We've a lot of work to do over the next few weeks."
