Jamie Stuart, Joe Dey and Eddie Smith were on the scheme for three years |
York City Knights have signed three players who have progressed through their scholarship scheme. Jamie Stuart, Joe Dey and Eddie Smith, who are all aged 16, will link up with the Knights straight away from their York-based amateur clubs. Knights general manager Ian Wilson said: "We are very pleased that Joe, Eddie and Jamie have joined the club. "They all have potential to be future first team stars and most importantly have excellent attitudes." Wilson added: "We have been monitoring them for the last four years and it is very pleasing to see their hard work has paid off. "The scholarship scheme is continuing to provide the club with top quality junior talent which I'm sure will benefit us over the coming years." The three players are working with former Knights player Mick Ramsden on a controlled programme to help them develop physically over the next six months. Ramsden said: "The lads have been working on rugby specific weight training and power training to build explosive strength. "It's a really important aspect of training and it's a good age to start learning the techniques involved. "I've seen a great improvements in them already and their attitude towards the work has been great. I'm sure they'll feel the benefits on the field." The Knights' scholarship scheme started in 2004 with coaches working with the best players in the North Yorkshire area.
