Castleford (28) 52 Tries: Shenton, Huby, Hudson, Owen 2, Westerman, Netherton, McGoldrick, Widders Goals: Dixon 8 Salford (6) 16 Tries: Talau, Fitzpatrick, Henry Goals: Wilshere 2
Castleford continued their good start to the season, running in nine tries to claim an easy win over Salford. The visitors never recovered from conceding four tries in the opening 20 minutes from Michael Shenton, Craig Huby, Ryan Hudson and Richard Owen. Joe Westerman also crossed before the break while Kirk Netherton, Ryan McGoldrick, Dean Widders and Owen added to the tally in the second half. Willie Talau, Karl Fitzpatrick and Mark Henry responded for the Reds.
Castleford coach Terry Matterson: "We put it to bed in the first 30 minutes and really blew them away. It was pretty impressive to watch. We controlled the ball and our kicking game was outstanding. "We were patient in our sets and it was a pretty pleasing performance although I was a bit disappointed we conceded a couple of late tries. "Brent Sherwin makes a big difference to us and takes a lot of pressure off the other guys. I also thought Ryan McGoldrick was great for us." Salford coach Shaun McRae: "I think we are struggling to come to grips with the pace of Super League. "We didn't have any ball and for the first 10 or 15 minutes we are finding ourselves defending all the time. Some of that is our fault and some of it is good play by the other team. "We have just got to come to terms with the speed and intensity at this level and when we do we will be okay. With the football we did not look too bad but defensively we have some issues."
