Woods led Thunder to promotion as champions in 2008

Gateshead Thunder have terminated the contract of head coach David Woods after one season in charge.

The club's statement reads: "The club would like to thank David for his role in securing the club's promotion to the Co-operative Championship.

"[We] would like to wish him the best in his future career."

Assistant coach Chris Hood has been installed in temporary charge at the club ahead of February's Northern Rail Cup opener against Keighley Cougars.

Thunder won the National League Two title last season, earning them promotion to League One.
