Super League's bottom side Castleford came from 12-0 down early on to claim a first win of the season over local rivals Wakefield.

The Wildcats struggled despite Sean Gleeson and Sam Obst tries putting them ahead early on.

Stuart Donlan and Joe Westerman both went over for two tries as the Tigers showed greater determination.

Luke Dorn, Andrew Henderson and Craig Huby and Scott Moore also crossed while Kirk Dixon converted all eight tries.

Castleford's win avenged the defeat to Wakefield that saw them relegated from the Super League two years ago.

Gleeson and Obst's early scores looked to have put John Kear's side on the right track to ending a run of six games without a win.

But Donlan led the Tigers fightback, scoring twice as he benefited from passes from Brent Sherwin and Ned Catic.

Westerman then touched down Ryan McGoldrick's kick and Dorn went over from a Ned Catic pass.

The dominance continued after the break as Henderson went over from dummy half and Peter Lupton sent Huby through.

Ryan Atkins and Brett Ferres pulled a couple of tries back for the home side but late scores by Westerman, with his second try from a Dorn kick, and Scott Moore ensured Castleford finished in style.

Wakefield coach John Kear:

"We fell apart drastically and there's a lot of self-examination that's got to be done by everyone at the club.

"It's pointless blaming other people - it's now time for responsibility from everyone from myself down to the water carrier.

"Our defence was atrocious and there's no doubt about that. We've got no chance of the top six with performances like that. You've got to be realistic. We're just not at the races.

"We all need to go away and I hope we all have sleepless nights. We need to decide how we want to finish the season."

Castleford coach Terry Matterson:

"I was frustrated at the beginning and you do think 'here we go again', but all credit to my guys. We got back to doing what we have been doing well and we controlled the ball well in the second half.

"Ryan McGoldrick has been doing a really good job for us but everyone contributed and that's what pleased me most.

"Everyone knows that we can play footy but it's a case of knowing when to do it and when to be conservative.

"We didn't even speak about the past. It was just about us getting back on board with a win."
