Briers's last-gasp goal proved the difference between the teams

Leroy Cudjoe's hat-trick was in vain as Lee Briers' late drop-goal earned Warrington a fine comeback victory.

Errors gifted Cudjoe two early tries before Warrington's Ben Westwood scored, only for Cudjoe to add his third before the break.

Tries by Simon Grix and Paul Rauhihi drew Warrington level before the Giants had two tries ruled out.

Luke Robinson knocked on as he went for a late Huddersfield drop-goal, seconds before Briers landed his to win it.

Huddersfield hit the ground running as Chris Riley's knock-on set up the chance for Cudjoe to get on the end of Ryan Hudson's kick-through and open the scoring in the second minute.

Warrington's first serious try-scoring threat came when Briers was high-tackled by Danny Kirmond, but rather than run from a promising position they went for the easy two points, kicked by Chris Hicks.

Another defensive blunder gifted Cudjoe his second try, after Hicks and Kevin Penny's farcical collision as they both went for a high ball, but Warrington had reason to thank the Giants try-scorer when they notched their first try.

When Cudjoe was caught in possession of Matt King's grubber kick behind his own goal line, the Wolves earned a second set of six tackles, and Briers and Michael Monaghan combined well to set up the chance for Westwood to slide over and score.

This looked to have given the visitors a foothold in the game but they were soon punished for standing still as Stephen Wild stole the ball in the tackle and launched a counter-attack.

Poor tackling allowed Cudjoe to bear down on the line and, despite King's best efforts, he twisted and turned before eventually grounding the ball for the third time.

The game was transformed in the opening 10 minutes of the second half as first Grix shrugged off two tackles to score, and then Adrian Morley offloaded to Rauhihi to level the scores.

The video referee then ruled against Kevin Brown and Martin Aspinwall in quick succession, denying both tries for knock-on, as Huddersfield tried to regain their lead.

With the Giants having failed to score since half-time, Robinson decided to go for a potentially vital one-pointer, only to produce yet another knock-on.

And within seconds Huddersfield were made to pay as Briers's drop-goal scraped just over the bar to put Warrington ahead for the first time.

At the death Chris Thorman came within inches of pulling Huddersfield level with another attempted drop-goal, but once it went wide Warrington's victory was assured.

Huddersfield caretaker coach Paul Anderson:

"I've got to give them A for effort but C in the area of smartness.

"We started the game very well. We were very patient in everything we were doing and building pressure with simple plays.

"But in the second half we didn't continue to do things we did in first half. Warrington are a decent team and, when they start rolling, they can be difficult to stop."

Warrington coach James Lowes:

"At half-time I was still confident we were going to create chances and we did. We were slightly off our game across the board but we scraped a win.

"Our energy levels were down but we've got great spirit and character in the side - I've said that since I took over.

"We generally need to up our game slightly for the challenges ahead and I'm sure we will. We need to be on our game in the next six or seven weeks."
