A Kevin Penny hat-trick led the way for Jimmy Lowes's Warrington side as Wakefield went down by 11 tries.

Lowes, who has the coach's role until the end of the season after Paul Cullen left the Wolves in May, looked on as his team ripped Wakefield apart.

Matt King (2), Jon Clarke, Chris Riley (2), Michael Monaghan, Simon Grix, Martin Gleeson and Penny touched down.

Matt Peterson, Jason Demetriou, Richard Moore and Matt Blaymire exposed poor defence in reply but it was not enough.

Those four tries highlighted the defensive deficiencies that Lowes has yet to iron out, but Warrington are clearly building momentum at just the right time as they look to enhance their play-off potential.

There was hardly going to be any way back for the Wildcats after entering half time 34-18 down.

And Warrington produced a more solid defensive display in the second half to shut out the visitors and secure the match in style.

"He could have got caught and it's just not my thing. It's a bit disrespectful to the opposition but that's part of Kevin's learning."

Wakefield coach John Kear:

"I just felt Warrington could score every time they had the ball."
