By Elizabeth Hudson

"That was a real team effort by England, everyone worked hard as a unit and defended well in the second half. It was a brilliant finish and I think Tony Smith will be happy with that. France were disappointing but England are starting to look like a real team."
BBC summariser Tulsen Tollett

80 mins:FULL-TIME: France 8-56 England

78 mins: Leon Pryce is announced as man of the match. Not too many arguments with that, the St Helens player has looked lively all game. But a worrying moment for St Helens coach Daniel Anderson as Maurie Fa'asavalu limps off with what looks like a knee injury.

74 mins:TRY: France 8-56 England
Paul Wellens gets his name on the scoresheet using his fitness to take Danny McGuire's pass to go over. That makes it 10 tries and Sinfield adds the extras.

70 mins:TRY: France 8-50 England
This is turning into a rout as the Leeds trio of Burrow, Sinfield and McGuire combine for Danny McGuire to go over for his side's ninth try and Sinfield has no problem extending the lead further.

67 mins:TRY: France 8-44 England
The video referee is called in again, this time to give the green light to Jon Wilkin as he adds to the tally taking Kevin Sinfield's pass from dummy-half and using his strength to get the better of Sebastien Raguin and get the ball over. Sinfield, back on again, adds the extras.

63 mins: Full-time at the JJB Stadium where Wigan win 38-20 against Harlequins. Tony Clubb scores his second try of the game just on full-time but it means the Warriors leapfrog Wakefield into fourth place in the table.

61 mins:TRY: France 8-38 England
Martin Gleeson shows that his international career is still very much alive and well by completing his hat-trick, stepping inside after yet another break by the England attackers. Maybe he will be playing some upbeat disco music tonight to celebrate - or at least some happy guitar music. Burrow adds the extras.

58 mins: Darrell Goulding gets his second try at the JJB Stadium for Wigan with five minutes to go and at 38-16, the points are safe. It will be a much-needed win for the Warriors.

57 mins:TRY: France 8-32 England
A second try of the game for guitar-playing Warrington centre Martin Gleeson who dummies past Cyril Stacul and then beats Gregory Mounis to plant the ball in the corner. Rob Burrow puts in a superb kick to add the extras from the touchline and England are threatening to run riot.

Why couldn't they play the game on a Wednesday and what is the point of playing the starting 13 in a game? Tony Smith could have played a second 13 with fringe players to give the coach other options in case of injuries.

52 mins:TRY: France 8-26 England
Keith Senior might be one of the elder statesmen of the England set-up but he shows a fair burst of speed to go through from 30 metres out under the posts but it was the culmination of another smooth movement involving Burrow, Wilkin and Pryce. Burrow kicks the extras.

49 mins:TRY: France 8-20 England
Senior makes up for his earlier mistake by putting Peter Fox in for a try on his debut after he was denied by the video referee in the first half. Again the ball is spread out wide and the Hull KR player goes over. No extravagant celebrations for the 23-year-old who played with the York City Knights just two years ago. Rob Burrow misses the extras with Danny McGuire on for Sinfield, the usual kicker.

46 mins: Another chance goes a begging for England. Play is spread out to the left but Keith Senior knocks on with the line at his mercy.

45 mins: The pressure is growing on England as Ade Gardner forces a third repeat set but they are unable to make the possession into points. Thomas Leuluai scores for Wigan and Pat Richards boots over his fifth goal to make it 34-16.

44 mins:Paul Wellens now has his wobbly moment. Thomas Bosc sends a kick through into the in-goal area but the usually reliable Wellens slips and just about manages to get the ball past the endline before the French attackers pounce.

42 mins: Oh Martin Gleeson, what are you doing? He tries to offload to Ade Gardner with the line beckoning but Gardner isn't quite on his wavelength. Maybe if it was St Helens teammate Matt Gidley on his inside, it would have been different!

2049: Here we go again and France kick off the second half.

2048: The sun is setting in Toulouse as the players come out for the second half. The England players have determined looks on their faces and they will want to exert their superiority in the second half with a quick score.

2039: Brian Noble's half-time talk to Wigan seems to have worked and Darrell Goulding goes over for another score to make it 28-16.

"England coach Tony Smith will be happy with the way his team have played when they have had the ball in hand, but not defensively. They've looked a bit shaky at times."
BBC summariser Tulsen Tollett

40 mins:HALF-TIME: France 8-16 England

38 mins: Jon Wilkin is stopped just short of the line but the pass he took from Rob Burrow was judged to be forward so France can breath a sigh of relief. Also signs of relief from Wigan fans as they go 24-16 up early in the second half thanks to Gareth Hock. Hock was unlucky to have missed out on being part of Tony Smith's England squad because of an ankle injury and will be keen to be involved next time.

35 mins:TRY: France 8-16 England
And those subsititutes have done their job! Maurie Fa'asavalu, who became a father for the second time recently, scores after a lovely inside pass from Kevin Sinfield and the Leeds captain adds the extras. England are starting to take control as half-time approaches.

"The difference between these two sides tonights could be the substitutes. The England bench has plenty of pace and power."
BBC summariser Tulsen Tollett

32 mins: England's favourite Samoan Maurie Fa'asavalu is on along with clubmate James Graham and Tony Smith will be hoping for some strong forward play from him in front of a crowd of about 10,000 in Toulouse.

28 mins: There has been a turnaround at the JJB Stadium where two scores late in the half by Pat Richards and Joel Tomkins, both converted by Richards, gives Wigan a 18-16 advantage.

26 mins: A Remy Casty break boosts the French but he is hauled down by Leon Pryce and they are making England work hard.

24 mins: A moment of magic by Sam Burgess who twists and turns to plant the ball over the line but there is disappointment as the score is disallowed for obstruction by Keith Senior. That is three England tries that have been disallowed by the two-man video referee team. This one is probably the most controversial.

23 mins:PENALTY: France 8-10 England
Catalans Dragons forward Jamal Fakir causes problems straight away and wins a penalty for his side in front of the posts. Surprisingly Thomas Bosc opts to kick for goal rather than challenge for a try but the gap is closed.

21 mins: France coach John Monie brings his four replacements onto the field together to try to give them a fresh impetus.

20 mins: It is now 16-6 to Harlequins against Wigan after a Tony Clubb try.

19 mins:TRY: France 6-10 England
The penalty gives England a good advantage and they play the ball out wide superbly to the right wing where Martin Gleeson races over for a try. Sinfield misses the extras.

17 mins: Boos ring out from the French crowd as Martin Gleeson is stripped of the ball by the French defence and it looks like a knock-on but the referee gives a penalty to England.

16 mins: England are having to defend again and Julien Rinaldi causes problems with a kick through on the last tackle. James Roby has to shepherd the ball out and England have a goal-line drop-out.

14 mins:TRY: France 6-6 England
Their work is rewarded as Kevin Sinfield and James Roby combine after the ball is kept alive by the Leeds contingent and the St Helens hooker passes inside to clubmate Leon Pryce who is in support for his eighth international try, right under the posts. Sinfield adds the extras.

13 mins: England are showing some promising signs and a high kick by Rob Burrow causes problems for the France defence but Sam Burgess is outjumped and France get possession back again.

12 mins: Joe Mbu puts Harlequins 10-6 up in Wigan but Henry Paul misses the extras.

11 mins: Hull KR winger Peter Fox crashes over for the line but there is disappointment as the video referee rules it out but that is the second time that England have tried to capitalise in the corners.

10 mins: In Wigan, Louie McCarthy-Scarsbrook goes over for a try for Harlequins and Henry Paul kicks over the extras. It's 6-6 there.

9 mins: That is a bit of a wake-up call for England and the scrum-half Wynne certainly took his try well. What can Tony Smith's side do now?

8 mins:TRY: France 6-0 England
The pressure on the England defence pays off as Lezignan player-coach James Wynne, a former Toulouse player himself, takes advantage of a gap in the England defence to scamper over. Thomas Bosc, who has excelled with the boot all season, kicks the extras.

6 mins: England are penalised for some slack defending by Ade Gardner and Martin Glesson and France make a charge to the line. First test for the England defence.

4 mins: Captain Jamie Peacock has started this one strongly and is stopped just before the line. It is all England at the moment.

2 mins: The French are caught offside by referee Jason Robinson (no, not the former Wigan and England star). It sets up a good scoring chance but Ade Gardner is denied in the corner by Cyril Stacul.

1945: Kevin Sinfield gets the game underway and Olivier Elima is tackled strongly by Keith Senior.

1943: Teams have been introduced to the dignitaries, we have had the anthems so it is almost time for action. France will begin strongly and in the Toulouse sunshine will also have the crowd behind them.

"Personally, I think it's a joke that the game is even being played tonight when other fixtures are still going ahead." mightywarrywarry on 606

1940: First score of the night at the JJB Stadium where Mickey Higham gives Wigan the lead against Harlequins. Pat Richards adds the extras.

1937: The England team, dressed in their natty new kit are getting ready to emerge in the Stade Ernest Wallon in Toulouse, led of course by Jamie Peacock. It's a big night for the whole team, not least debutant Peter Fox who will start on the wing.

1931: It's going to be a busy night with this game and Wigan also taking on Harlequins in the Super League. You can text us on 81111 and join the debate on 606.

1924: Kick-off is at 1945 in Toulouse but the teams are in already:

France: Clayton, Khattabi, Sadaoui, Raguin, Stacul, Bosc, Wynne, Elima, Rinaldi, Fellous, Carrasco, Anselme, Mounis.
Replacements: Casty, Fakir, Sabatie, Duport.

England: Wellens, Gardner, Gleeson, Senior, Fox, Pryce, Burrow, Morley, Roby, Peacock, Ellis, Burgess, Sinfield.
Replacements: Graham, Fa'asavalu, Wilkin, McGuire.

The French team features six members of the Catalans Dragons team in the starting line-up, plus three more on the bench. Jerome Guisset, who was due to captain the French side misses out through injury with Harlequins' Julien Rinaldi taking the armband instead.

1920: England have won their previous seven meetings against France while Great Britain (as they were last season) beat them 42-14 in Headingley last summer.

1915: Welcome, or should I say bonjour to England's first game as they start their build up to the 2008 Rugby League World Cup later this year.
