A resurgent second-half peformance earned Wakefield a thrilling away victory over play-off rivals Hull KR.

The visitors had been trailing 18-4 with 11 minutes left, but four late tries from Brad Drew (2), Ryan Atkins and Jamie Rooney clinched the win.

Wakefield took the lead through Damian Blanch before Clint Newton's converted try gave Rovers the lead at half-time.

Rovers extended their lead through Michael Vella and Peter Fox before the Wildcats' late four-try show.

The victory capped off an emotional week for Wakefield following the death of former coach David Topliss on Monday.

The result also sees Wakefield move into the Super League's top four, while Hull KR slip to ninth after their third successive defeat.

Hull KR coach Justin Morgan: "It leaves an awful taste in your mouth. We should've easily put that away, but silly penalties and dumb play cost us.

"Our ego and confidence have taken a bit of a battering, but with or without confidence we should have won.

"We're rocks or diamonds at the moment, we're having no average time, we're either brilliant or very poor."

Wakefield coach John Kear dedicates win to David Topliss: "David is a guy that everybody knew," said Kear after the 26-18 victory.

"He wasn't a past player that none of the players knew, everybody knew him. We were all very fond of him.

"I'm delighted with the response as that reflects the spirit and character of the club and obviously David Topliss is an integral part of that."
