Deakin unfazed by fixture pile-up

Rugby League

Oldham coach Steve Deakin has refused to criticise the Rugby Football League, despite being given just three days preparation to face Gateshead.

The Roughyeds face the National League Two leaders on Wednesday, just 72 hours after losing 46-4 to Wakefield in the Challenge Cup quarter-finals on Sunday.

"They're the cards we get dealt with," Deakin told BBC Radio Manchester.

"We knew that before the Wakefield game and we can't do anything about that," he added.

"We've got to dust ourselves off, get some rehab and have some recovery time. Then we just have to get back on the horse on Wednesday and focus on the league."
