Wigan set up a Challenge Cup quarter-final clash with Leeds after crushing Whitehaven at the JJB Stadium. Half-back Sam Tomkins scored five tries on his debut including a hat-trick inside the first 12 minutes. Trent Barrett also claimed a hat-trick to go with doubles for Harrison Hansen, Mark Calderwood and Iafeta Paleaaesina. The Warriors crossed 18 times in total, with Pat Richards kicking over 17 goals to go with the 16th touchdown for a personal tally of 38 points.
Wigan coach Brian Noble: "The win should do the confidence a lot of good. "To score 106 points against anybody is a fine achievement - but the real response and the true test will be this Friday against Warrington. "Leeds will be very, very wary of ourselves going there. It's the tie of the round and we look forward to it." Whitehaven coach Ged Stokes: "Nobody likes getting beat by 100 points, it doesn't matter what team you're playing against."
