Wakefield staged a remarkable comeback to record a thrilling victory over Harlequins at Belle Vue.

Trailing by 14 points at the break, Wakefield scored three second-half tries in quick succession.

The Wildcats crossed early on through Jamie Rooney but tries from Danny Orr, Matt Gafa, Michael Worrincy and Rikki Sheriffe gave Harlequins a 20-6 lead.

But second-half tries from Rooney, Tony Martin and Sam Obst saw Wakefield complete a stunning comeback.

The Quins started slowly and conceded the first points of the game with Rooney crossing for Wakefield after a fine off-load by Ryan Atkins.

Danny Brough added the extras and Wakefield looked to be comfortable against the threat of Harlequins.

But Orr's try sparked Quins into life and another effort two minutes later from Gafa completed a fine turnaround.

Worrincy then went over in the corner after a fine break from Orr from just inside his own half for their third try.

And to further compound Wakefield's misery Sheriffe then finished off Rob Purdham's break with the Quins displaying fine handling in contact.

Wakefield came out for the second-half with urgency and vigour as they attempted to reduce the deficit.

Martin almost did but his try was disallowed for a knock-on earlier in the move.

But on the hour, Wakefield did get the reward their pressure deserved with Rooney crossing for his second try of the game.

Atkins was then denied Wakefield's third try because of a forward pass as the home side continued to press.

With 15 minutes remaining Martin went over in the corner to reduce the score to 20-16 to set up a grandstand finish.

It spurred Wakefield on and Obst completed an amazing comeback which included three tries in 10 minutes to level the scores.

Brough sent over the extra two points to give Wakefield the lead for the first time since the ninth minute.

David Howell was then sent to the sin bin for a late tackle on Rooney to further compound Harlequins' problems.

Brough slotted the penalty to leave Quins needing a try to at least rescue a draw but despite late pressure, Wakefield held on to record a thrilling victory.

Wakefield coach John Kear:
"We were pretty abysmal in the first half.

"I must pay credit to the leaders in our group. The more experienced players had to go out there and lead and that's what they did.

"We went from amateurs to internationals in the half-time break."

Harlequins coach Brian McDermott
"We had enough opportunities to kill off three games. If you give any team enough ball they are going to get a sniff and that's what we did. We then didn't have enough to stop them.

"We spoke at half-time about going out there and scoring more points. We didn't leave the dressing room with a shut-down mentality.

"But we didn't play in the second half. We played some great stuff and were so adventurous in the first half but then stopped playing and came up with some soft, unforced, amateurish errors."
