Warrington winger Chris Hicks maintained his record of scoring in every game this season as he helped his side to a hard-fought victory.

Hicks scored his ninth and 10th tries of the season to become the first player in the club's history to score in each of the first seven fixtures.

Huddersfield had been in the game at the break, trailing by just four points thanks to Jamahl Lolesi's try.

But despite Eorl Crabtree's second-half try, Warrington cruised to victory.

Hicks was inspirational throughout, and showed he is more than just a tryscorer by helping to create second-half scores for Lee Briers and centre Martin Gleeson.

Warrington's victory sees them climb to second in the Super League table.

  • Warrington coach Paul Cullen:

  • "The game was always going to be a bit of a grind at some point and it was about how we handled it.

"The pleasing part was when we dug a bit of a hole for ourselves by not completing sets and pushing the pass we corrected it and had the ability to open up and score some tries."

    On Hicks, Cullen added:
"At the moment he's doing everything we are asking of him and more considering he hurt his ankle quite badly in the NRL semi-final play-offs.

"But he's playing very, very well and I think there is more to come from him."

  • Huddersfield coach Jon Sharp:

  • "I thought we saw a really close contest for 50 or 60 minutes but we are lacking a bit of discipline at the moment and penalties are really hurting us.

"Technically and systems wise I am happy with what we are doing but we have to wise up because you can't give a team like Warrington field position because offensively they are one of the greatest threats in the game.

"It also affects your energy when you get the ball because when you are defending double sets for long periods it takes its toll and your energy is depleted and you are not as threatening when you do get the ball."
