Castleford: 12 (6)

Huddersfield secured their first win of the season with an emphatic 12-try thrashing of Castleford.

Luke Robinson, Rod Jensen, Kevin Brown and Steve Snitch and Shane Elford all touched down in the first half, while Michael Wainwright scored for Cas.

The onslaught continued in the second half with two tries from Jamahl Lolesi, while Chris Thorman, Paul Whaturia, Keith Mason, Robinson all crossed over.

Peter Lupton scored Cas' second try, but Andy Raleigh finished off the rout.

Full-back Thorman was in excellent kicking form, adding 16 points while Joe Westerman added four points for the Tigers.

The drubbing will further compound Castleford's problems - they are the only team who have yet to register a point in this season's Super League.

The Tigers have had their squad - the smallest in the top flight - reduced further by injuries and suspensions.

And the afternoon began in the worst possible fashion for the visitors with tries in four minutes when Robinson and Jensen crossed over.

Although Wainwright reduced the deficit on 17 minutes, Brown soon extended the lead when he scored his try before setting up Snitch with a superb pass.

Elford touched down just half-time, but Tigers coach Terry Matterson's half-time team talk had little impact as the Giants cut loose in the second half with four tries in a devastating eight-minute spell.

Thorman, Lolesi, Whatuira all went over before Robinson's fine pinpoint kick found second row Lolesi for his second.

Makeshift scrum-half Peter Lupton managed to get something from the half, but his score only motivated Huddersfield to add more tries to their impressive tally through former Cas prop Mason, Robinson and Raleigh.

Huddersfield coach Jon Sharp on Rod 'Rocket' Jensen's influence:
"The air of anticipation every time he touched the ball was similar to Jason Robinson when he carried the ball in his rugby league days.

"Every time he touched the ball he created something. It's another string to Rocket's bow.

"We played really good attacking stuff and defended well. Our support play in particular was excellent."

Castleford coach Terry Matterson:
"I was hoping we wouldn't have any of those performances from two years ago but we have now. We've got to deal with it and move on.

"I could reel off excuses - I had 17 players to pick from - but we've got to look to the 17 on the field and they're better than that.

"What we served up didn't do justice to the supporters who came in numbers. I thought they were fantastic and I feel for them. We're three games in and we've got to do better."
