Saints have got used to winning the big games and maybe that was our downfall in Saturday's Super League Grand Final.
I'm not saying we were overconfident or laid-back, just that Leeds were very hungry for victory and perhaps wanted it more than we did.
Their coach, Tony Smith, was making his last appearance and perhaps that was a factor, too.
His players were keen to send him off with some silverware.
As for us, defeat will spur us on and we will bounce back. This is only a minor setback. We won't crumble just because of this one loss.
We'll analyse what went wrong and move on.
We still have a very talented squad and we have a lot of youngsters coming through who want to achieve success very badly.
Jamie Peacock was immense for the Rhinos.
All credit to Rob Burrow. He played well and walked off with the man-of-the-match Harry Sunderland Trophy. But, for me, Peacock was the stand-out performer.
Jamie Peacock goes on another forward charge against St Helens |
I've witnessed - and often been on the receiving end of - some great displays from some great forwards, but what Peacock did at Old Trafford was something else.
He kept taking the game to us for the whole 80 minutes. I don't know how he did it. Where did he get his drive and energy from?
It was a truly astonishing performance and testament to his enormous ability and determination.
I'm not sure if this is the end of my season or not.
I'll wait to find out if I've been picked for Great Britain.
I'm carrying a few injuries - like a hernia - but they won't stop me playing against New Zealand if selected.
In the meantime, I'll take a few days off to soothe my aching body and get my head around this defeat.
