Axe falls on Haven coach Rotheram
Dave Rotheram
Rotheram led his side to the Northern Rail Cup final this season
Whitehaven head coach Dave Rotheram will not have his contract renewed by the board at the end of the season.

Rotheram guided Haven to the Northern Rail Cup final and the National League One play-offs this season, but has been told he has no future at Haven.

"The board feel we need a fresh approach and a change of direction," chairman Des Byrne told BBC Radio Cumbria.

"His contract is coming to an end and we have decided not to renew it."

The news broke shortly after Whitehaven booked a place in the semi-final of the National League One play-offs after defeating Leigh Centurians 19-6 at the Recreation Ground on Thursday.

Byrne stated the club were looking to appoint a new coach before pre-season training began, but denied rumours that a replacement had already been lined up.

"I have approached no one, and I have had assurances from other directors that no one has approached anybody else either," he said.

Two tries from Carl Rudd and one each from Craig Calvert and David Seeds were enough to see off the Centurians.

Haven will face either Halifax or Sheffield, who play each other on Sunday.
