Wilkin says team spirit is vital to Saints success |
Jon Wilkin says he is already dreaming of helping St Helens secure a third straight Challenge Cup win in 2008. Speaking after Saturday's 30-8 win over Catalans Dragons, Wilkin said he wanted to be part of a dynasty of success.
"Winning the Cup is great, but to retain it is even better," the Saints forward told BBC Sport.
"The challenge comes next year - we want to make it a treble. We want to create a legacy and be one of the great modern sides."
Apart from Wigan's extraordinary run of eight consecutive victories from 1988 to 1995, no club has ever won the trophy more than two years running.
But Saturday's victory at Wembley saw Saints' red and white ribbons on the Cup for the sixth time in 12 years.
And with key players such as Wilkin, Paul Wellens and Leon Pryce still well short of their 30th birthdays, it looks like that success could continue for some years to come.

Wellens and Pryce were joint winners of the Lance Todd Trophy for man of the match on Saturday.
And it seemed fitting that it should be shared as Wilkin said the team ethic is at the core of Saints' success.
"I've been involved in lots of teams where people say team spirit is great, and really it's been rubbish - but that's not the case with Saints," he said.
"It's a family club, we're all integrated socially and we're friends off the field. There's genuine team spirit at St Helens - there's nothing phoney about it here."
