Lee Briers scored a hat-trick and added eight goals as Warrington ran in 11 tries to overwhelm struggling Hull KR.

Briers controlled the game to send his side back into the top six and leave Hull KR only a point ahead of bottom side Salford, who have a game in hand.

The Wolves controlled matters from the third minute when Stuart Reardon scored the first of his two tries.

Jon Clarke also had a double with Mark Gleeson, Adrian Morley, Chris Bridge and Henry Fa'afili adding to the tally.

After winning in France against the Catalans Dragons, coach Justin Morgan opted to keep faith with the same side meaning no place for Paul Cooke

But they struggled defensively and although Ian Hardman got them on the board after Reardon's opener, the Wolves scored five tries in 23 first-half minutes to put the result beyond doubt.

Reardon added his second try less than a minute into the second half but Rovers gave their fans something to cheer about on 47 minutes when Cockayne made a break inside his own half for Ben Fisher to go over.

Rovers were caught offside on 57 minutes and, from the resulting penalty, Briers crossed for an unconverted try and he completed his hat-trick six minutes later when he touched down his own kick ahead.

Gareth Morton put Makali Aizue over for an unconverted consolation try with nine minutes to go only to see Henry Fa'afili touchdown at the other end.

With three minutes to go, Jon Clarke strolled home with Briers adding the extras but Morton gave the last word to Hull KR with a late try converted by Lennon.

  • Hull KR coach Justin Morgan

"We just thought we had to turn up after last week and go through the motions to get the job done but it did not work and I'm embarrassed by the lack of enthusiasm and the lack of effort.

"Our effort levels were poor and the performance was poor because of that. They split us down the middle on numerous occasions and that is inexcusable.

"We are a side which needs to work hard for each other - today everyone wanted to take shortcuts and, when that happens, teams will run riot as Warrington did."

  • Warrington coach Paul Cullen

"We got our reward for a decent week's work and we now have to keep our heads down and keep working.

"I was very impressed with Rovers last week against the Catalans and knowing that we prepared with full respect.

"I think we are getting a bit more healthy although we have not designed to peak at any relevant point."
