Wigan (14) 30
Tries: Bailey, Barrett, Ashton, Richards, Calderwood
Goals: Richards 5
Catalans (0) 0
Wigan stand-off Trent Barrett produced another fine display to guide the Warriors to a comfortable victory over Catalans at the JJB Stadium. The Dragons held their own early on but the game turned when centre Adam Mogg was sin-binned on 23 minutes.
While Mogg was off the field, Phil Bailey went over before Barrett ran in from 60m to put Wigan 14-0 ahead.
Chris Ashton and Pat Richards put the result beyond doubt while Barrett fed Mark Calderwood for Wigan's fifth try.
Wigan's win will be a real boost for the Warriors ahead of the Challenge Cup semi-final contest between the two sides next month.
The Dragons had a fright early on when wing Justin Murphy smashed over the perimeter wall and landed awkwardly on some concrete steps after running into the in-goal area to chase a kick through.
He did manage to continue after lengthy treatment but his movement seemed to be restricted, especially in the first half.
Catalans had a Clint Greenshields try ruled out for an obvious offside before Mogg saw yellow after holding onto Ashton in the tackle as Wigan attacked.
Wigan, who were already 2-0 up after a Richards goal, took an 8-0 lead thanks to Bailey's score on 24 minutes.
Barrett then made it two tries in three minutes following a wonderful jinking run which saw the Australian dummy his way past Greenshields.
It was one-way traffic after the break and rugby-union bound Ashton also crossed from long range after being set free by Harrison Hansen.
Richards claimed the fourth try after pouncing on Thomas Leuluai's kick while Calderwood had the simple task of wrapping up the win with 10 minutes left on the clock.
Wigan coach Brian Noble:
"It was a good night's work and we were pretty methodical, looked sharp and were vigorous in defence and I also thought our mentality was good too. "It's good to have a blank weekend coming up because of the international and I'll be giving the players a few days off this week because they deserve it."
Catalans coach Mick Potter:
"The semi-final is the furthest thing from my mind at the moment because we are only two points off the bottom.
"Our handling was terrible. I think we only completed two sets in the second half and you don't win games doing that. Maybe I'll have to hand out nets to the blokes so they can catch.
"As for Barrett, everyone knows he's world class. If you're a bit loose on him, he'll cut you up, score tries and kick you off the park. He showed tonight what he can do."
Potter on the Murphy incident:
"It was a bit scary when Justin went over the wall. It looked pretty bad and I'm glad he didn't hurt himself. But he was very lucky."
