Leeds bounced back from their losses to Wigan and Hull to go two points clear at the top of the table with a hard-fought win over Hull KR. The home side dominated the opening exchanges and a Paul Cooke penalty on 14 minutes put them 2-0 ahead.
Leeds hit back with a Danny McGuire try and although Cooke kicked another goal, tries from Clinton Toopi and Jordan Tansey put the Rhinos 18-4 in front.
Jason Netherton scored for Rovers with 10 minutes left but Leeds hung on.
Hull KR coach Justin Morgan:
"There are plenty of positives to come from the last three games. "We have played three big teams in Hull FC, Leeds and Wigan and if we had been offered two out of the three we would have taken it, but when you are on a bit of a roll you get a bit greedy sometimes.
"But credit to Leeds they have come off the back of two defeats and dug out a win and all credit to them.
"I thought both sides handled things well on a difficult day but again we had to be behind before we came alive."
Leeds coach Tony Smith:
"It was not the prettiest of days and that is going to have an effect on your rugby league. "We did to Hull KR what they did to us when they beat us in March. We gave them no ball and we just had to churn it out.
"I said to the players we could have tried to play more expansively and win by 20 or 30 points but then we could have ended up losing by a couple of points.
"I thought we played sensibly and got a good result. I think our defence was outstanding and I was never really worried. In fact I was surprised when they scored."
