New Great Britain coach Tony Smith is expected to name a young squad for his first game in charge against France at Headingley on 22 June. Smith has indicated he will rest some of his more experienced players for the game and try out some new combinations.
"We're less than 18 months away from the World Cup and I'm looking to give some other players a chance," he said.
"We have some of the best young players in the world here and I am keen to see them play international football."
June's game will be the first time Great Britain have played France since October 2001.
Smith will break away from the policy of his predecessors Brian Noble and David Waite by not naming a train-on squad and will instead announce a squad of 21 or 22 players a fortnight before the game.
"The build-up to the World Cup starts against France and that's why I'm looking to give some other players a chance," he added.
"Therefore, I expect the squad I name in a few weeks to be a mixture of new faces, eager to prove themselves, and experienced and established internationals."
Last year England beat France 26-10 during the Federation Shield but Smith still expects a difficult encounter on his club ground.
"The French have some quality players and the emergence of Catalans Dragons in the Super League has helped their national team immensely," he said.
"They are now benefiting from playing a high level of rugby each week, and I expect them to give us a very good game."
