Leeds beat Super League leaders St Helens for the second time this season to claim a share of top spot.

Saints led 10-8 at the break thanks to James Roby and Ste Tyrer tries either side of one from Danny McGuire.

But Rob Burrow put the Rhinos ahead early in the second half with a darting run through the home defence.

With Leeds working hard and Saints tiring, Ryan Hall and Jordan Tansey raced over the line in the last 10 minutes to secure the victory.

Leeds struck the opening blow with a fourth-minute penalty from Kevin Sinfield.

They almost extended their lead when Matty Smith's kick was charged down by Sinfield, who set up Clinton Toopi only for Matt Gidley to halt his progress.

At the other end, Willie Talau had his effort ruled out by the video referee after the Kiwi failed to ground the ball properly.

Saints finally got their reward on 26 minutes when Roby exploited a gap in the Leeds defence to scuttle clear from close range.

Tyrer added the extras, but the response from Leeds was swift, Sinfield finding McGuire, who scampered under the posts to put his side in front.

Tyrer had the final say of the first half, grounding in the left corner to finish off a slick passing movement to give his side a two-point advantage.

But Leeds regained the lead through Burrow in the 47th minute as Super League's smallest player marked his 200th appearance.

The visitors held firm after that, despite pressure from Saints, with their late scores from Hall and Tansey completing a fine display.

  • Leeds coach Tony Smith

"For Rob Burrow to reach 200 games shows how resilient he is and how durable he is for his size.

"You'd expect a little guy to miss games but he's never injured and nearly always plays the full 80 minutes every week.

"Rob's try was nice but then all tries against St Helens are nice. I thought his and Kevin Sinfield's kicking games were outstanding and that was key for us."

  • St Helens coach Daniel Anderson

"We had a couple of first-half opportunities which we didn't take, but it's not a worry to have lost two out of two to Leeds.

"I didn't think there was a dominant side out there and we haven't played a game like that for a long time."
