Salford remain rooted to the foot of the Super League table after Wakefield maintained their top-six challenge.
The Wildcats put in a superb first-half display and led 20-6 at one stage after tries from Jamie Rooney, Ben Jeffries, Duncan Macgillivray and Ryan Atkins.
David Hodgson's try gave the ailing Reds a lifeline and cut the gap to eight points at half-time.
But Wakefield were too strong and added tries from Atkins and Peter Fox, with Rooney kicking the other points.
Wakefield Trinity Wildcats coach John Kear "I am very happy because we have been a bit like Jekyll and Hyde, where we played really well at home and then haven't really performed on the road.
"The league position doesn't matter until round 27 - and if we are in the top six then, I can start answering the questions about it.
"Salford made one or two errors, but I am sure Shaun McRae will be looking at their completion rate - and that will be a target for them next week."
Salford coach Shaun McRae "We won't win many matches playing like that.
"You can't legislate for individual errors, but individual performances lose you matches.
"We were lucky not to have conceded 40 points in the first half, and I hope the players who made those errors tonight will put them right next week."
