GB hope McGuire is fit to inspire them against New Zealand again |
Leeds are confident that stand-off Danny McGuire could feature in the Tri-Nations series, despite a long lay-off because of shin splints. The 23-year-old has been sidelined for seven weeks and has played only three times since scoring twice in the victory against New Zealand in June.
"His symptoms are subsiding and he should return soon, with no long-term side-effects," a Leeds spokesman said.
Great Britain begin their bid against champions New Zealand on 28 October.
Although he has missed the last five matches, McGuire remains the joint top scorer in the Super League and would be an important member of the British squad.
Head physio Patrick Moran outlined the details of the shin problem that has plagued McGuire for so long.
"It concerns the attachment of the muscles at the back of his shin," he explained.
"The condition usually requires prolonged periods of rest but in Danny's case we are trying to make that period as short as possible."
