Dean Sampson has parted company with Castleford after 432 appearances since joining the club in 1986. Sampson recently stepped down as assistant coach to focus on his other role as Castleford's junior development manager but has cut ties with the club.
"He has ambitions to one day be the head coach of the Tigers," said chief executive Richard Wright.
"He and I have agreed his hopes would be better served if he spent some time away furthering his development."
The former Great Britain forward joined the club as a teenager and
played his final match for them in this season's Powergen Challenge Cup at the
age of 37.
