Terry Newton grabbed four tries as Wigan Warriors crushed Widnes at the Halton Stadium on Saturday.

Wigan made a good start, storming into an 18-0 lead with three tries in the space of seven first-half minutes.

Shane Millard and Jules O'Neill crossed for Widnes, but the scores were mere consolations against the Warriors.

It was Wigan's third win over the Vikings this season and extended their Super League unbeaten run to six matches.

Wigan were forced to switch skipper Andy Farrell to prop in the absence of injured pair Terry O'Connor and Danny Sculthorpe and with Quentin Pongia having recently retired.

It was great to watch and we attacked with great flair
Wigan caretaker coach Dennis Betts

Acting boss Denis Betts dropped Great Britain three-quarter David Hodgson with teenager Liam Colbon making his debut on the wing.

Ex-Wigan scrum-half Willie Peters made his first appearance for the Vikings after signing from South Sydney until the end of the season, partnering former Wigan star O'Neill at half-back.

Widnes started brightly, but the Warriors survived the onslaught and took the lead with their first attack on 10 minutes.

I'm a very honest person and maybe I have to dispense with some of the dishonest people
Widnes coach Neil Kelly

Farrell fed Adrian Lam with the Papuan scrum-half darting through for a converted try to open up a 6-0 lead.

Three minutes later Craig Smith made a break for Danny Orr to send Newton over with a neat inside pass.

Then Stephen Wild latched on to a kick for Farrell to make it 18-0 after 16 minutes.

Millard's consolation touchdown was eventually ruled good by video referee Steve Cross despite Orr's attempt to stop, but Wild and Newton both scored to make it 30-4 to Wigan.

Danny Tickle, taking over the kicking with Farrell in the bloodbin, landed a 40-metre penalty early in the second half.

O'Neill scythed through for the Vikings' second try despite Wigan's claims for obstruction, but man of the match Newton crossed for two more tries in seven minutes, sandwiching an O'Loughlin effort - before Mark Smith completed the rout.
