Hape could win his first New Zealand cap in the Tri-Nations |
New Zealand have called up five English-based players to their squad for the rest of the Tri-Nations series. Leeds' Ali Lauiti'iti and Bradford's Robbie Paul, Logan Swann, Lesley Vainikolo and Shontayne Hape will join up with the 24-man squad.
They missed Saturday's 16-16 draw against Australia as they were involved in the Super League Grand Final.
The touring squad contains four uncapped players in Hape, Alex Chan, Jamaal Lolesi and Dene Halatau.
The New Zealand selectors have released just 24 names because Motu Tony has been given more time to decide his availability after becoming a father for the first time on Wednesday.
"He's somewhat conflicted about leaving his new baby and his wife this week," said New Zealand Rugby League general manager Peter Cordtz.
Three others from the opening Tri-Nations test - Penrith second rowers Tony Puletua and Joe Gulavao, and Bulldog winger Matt Utai - are unavailable to tour because of previously scheduled off-season surgery. The squad flies into London on Monday night and the Tri-Nations series resumes at Loftus Road on Saturday with New Zealand facing Australia for a second time.
