Slater needs surgery on his groin |
Full-back Billy Slater has withdrawn from the Australian training squad for the Tri-Nations Series. The 21-year-old one-time jockey needs minor surgery on the groin injury which will keep him out of the Melbourne Storm side for the last four months.
He joins utility back Trent Barrett, who is to undergo shoulder and knee surgery, in withdrawing from the end-of-season series.
The Tri-Nations starts in New Zealand in October before moving to England.
"Obviously it's very disappointing that I can't be in contention for the Australian side but I'm looking to the long term," said Slater.
