Second half:

80 mins: A last-gasp effort comes to nothing from deep and the hooter sounds as Australia retain the Ashes.

78 mins: Great Britain regain possession, but Jamie Peacock knocks on and it is as good as over.

76 mins: Great Britain are upset once again as the referee awards another controversial penalty against them as Willie Mason is stripped of possession.

Craig Fitzgibbon puts a nail in the coffin with another two points.
GB 20-23 Australia

74 mins: Luke Rickettson makes the break and the Kangaroos drive towards the posts.

Brett Kimmorley gets into position and slots over a drop-goal to hand the advantage to Australia.
GB 20-21 Australia

72 mins: Australia set up camp deep in Lions territory, but a massive hit from Adrian Morley swings the momentum back to Great Britain.

69 mins: Great Britain shun the opportunity to go for a drop-goal and Mike Forshaw wastes any chance of a try as he puts his head down and charges on the last.

65 mins: Robbie Kearns gives up possession, but Great Britain return the favour and compund the error as they go offside.

Craig Fitzgibbon lines up the penalty and - for the second time - his attempt goes in off the post.

63 mins: The Great Britain players are incensed as a series of refereeing decisions go against them.

A late shot on Brian Carney inside the in-goal area goes unpunished.

61 mins: Adrian Morley, sent-off in the first Test, is put on report after a high tackle.

60 mins: Great Britain go for the power play on the last tackle and some lovely handling puts Brian Carney in space, but he is hauled down agonisingly short.

57 mins: Perhaps a pivotal moment in the game as Brian Carney comes off his wing to intercept an Anustralian pass. Had he missed it was a certain try.

From the resultant possession, Keith Senior makes a great break and a mediocre kick through is turned into into a great kick as Carney drags Lockyer into his in-goal area.

55 mins: Mistakes are creeping into the Lions' game as Brett Kimmorley's huge influence on the match grows.

51 mins: A good attack down the blindside comes to nothing after Brian Carney's attempt to keep the ball alive results in a forward pass.

49 mins: Great Britain look rattled and a poor up-and-under from Paul Deacon goes nowhere.

47 mins: After a kicking mistake from Andy Farrell, Australia come right back into the game as Kangaroos scrum-half Brett Kimmorley slices straight through the Lions defence to score under the posts.

Craig Fitzgibbon adds the extras.

45 mins: Brett Kimmorley knocks on to relieve the pressure on Great Britain as Australia look to be gaining the upper hand in the forward exchanges.

44 mins: Darren Lockyer cuts straight through the heart of the Lions team but Great Britain escape with a drop-out under the sticks.

42 mins: Gary Connolly sets the tone for Great Britain as he puts in a huge hit on Anthony Minichiello.

40 mins: Paul Deacon gets the second half underway as Kevin Sinfield comes into the action.

1921 BST: The players return after the half-time break to another massive reception from the crowd.


First half:

39 mins: Andy Farrell goes for a long-range drop-goal attempt, but it comes up just short.

Seconds later the hooter sounds and Great Britain go into half time with an eight-point lead.

37 mins: Australia hit back as Craig Fitzgibbon goes over on the left-hand side.

Matt Sing makes the break from his own half and links up with Danny Buderus whose attempted grubber rebounds off a Lions boot and lands in Brett Kimmorley's hands.

Kimmorley sends Fitzgibbon over, but the conversion is missed.
GB 20-12 Australia

34 mins: An over-ambitious pass from Shane Webcke gives possession back to the Lions as Paul Sculthorpe intercepts.

33 mins: Another penalty against Great Britain as Keith Senior robs Darren Lockyer of possession. The Lions are really under the cosh but their defensive line holds.

31 mins: Kangaroos skipper Darren Lockyer puts a grubber through but Brian Carney ensures nothing can come of it.

30 mins: Britain concede a penalty after the referee adjudges a joint Paul Sculthorpe and Andy Farrell tackle as dangerous.

26 mins: After some sustained Australian pressure, Brett Kimmorley puts a dangerous kick in which bounces off the post before Kris Radlinski makes it safe by touching down in-goal.

23 mins: Petero Civoniceva coughs up possession deep in their own half and centre Gary Connolly goes over for his first-ever Lions try.

The ball is swept wide and beautiful passes from Paul Sculthorpe and Paul Anderson give Connolly room to barge over.

Paul Deacon's - and Britain's - purple patch continues with the conversion.
GB 20-8 Australia

21 mins: Darren Lockyer makes a dreadful error from the kick-off as he sends the ball out on the full. Paul Deacon belts the ball into the corner and Britain apply yet more pressure.

20 mins: Another chip over the top from Britain causes more problems and the Lions are awarded a penalty when the ball is stolen.

Paul Deacon slots it through the posts to extend the lead.
GB 14-8 Australia

18 mins: Great Britain's Kris Radlinski goes over for a try after Paul Sculthorpe chips over the defence and Paul Deacon hacks on.

Radlinski outsprints the defence and, despite doubts about offside, the video official awards the try.

Deacon converts and the Lions are ahead again.
GB 12-8 Australia

16 mins: An enormous up-and-under from Brett Kimmorley causes panic, but Kris Radlinski comes out with the ball.

14 mins: Lions scrum-half Paul Deacon goes 40m with a lovely break but cannot link up with his support. A grubber from Terry Newton is just too strong and goes dead.

12 mins: Another short kick almost results in an Australia try, but the ball just runs out before Matt Sing can get to it.

11 mins: Australia's Matt Sing makes a great break before being dragged down by Lions full-back Kris Radlinski.

9 mins: The scoring continues at a rate as Australia captain Darren Lockyer goes over under the posts for Australia's first try after another superb kick from Brett Kimmorley.

Craig Fitzgibbon makes no mistake with the conversion.
GB 6-8 Australia

7 mins: Australia scrum-half Brett Kimmorley puts a dangerous grubber into the British in-goal area but Paul Deacon just gets a boot in ahead of Craig Fitzgibbon's dive.

5 mins: From the resulting possession, Britain score the opening try of the match through Terry Newton.

Andy Farrell's dab through is collected on the charge by Adrian Morley who flips out a brilliant pass out of the back of his hand to Newton.

Farrell converts to put Britain into a four-point lead.
GB 6-2 Australia

3 mins: A big mistake from Australia's Craig Gower straight from the kick-off as he allows the ball to bounce in goal and out.

2 mins: Craig Fitzgibbon scores the opening points of the Test as he strikes the penalty in off the post.
GB 0-2 Australia

1818 BST: Australia get the match underway and Great Britain make 40m before Andy Farrell has his kick charged down.

Australia regather possession and earn a penalty after half the Lions side are caught offside.

1812 BST: Lions captain Andy Farrell and his Australia counterpart lead the teams out to the sounds of Land of Hope and Glory and a rapturous reception from the sell-out crowd.
