Anderson fell out with the Cronulla president |
Cronulla Sharks have dismissed their coach Chris Anderson - the man who led Australia to a 3-0 Ashes win over Great Britain in November. Anderson, who only returned last week from the Australian tour, was told at a meeting with the Sharks board.
"The board has resolved to terminate my employment with the Sharks," Anderson said.
"I am bitterly disappointed - I was committed to seeing out my contract with the Sharks.
"I put my case to the board but unfortunately the board was not persuaded. I feel like I have not been given a fair go."
Anderson, who had been involved in a dispute with Sharks president Barry Pierce, said he would consider his options after consulting his family and legal representatives.
Former Wigan coach Stuart Raper is likely to become the new Sharks coach.
The decision comes after Anderson seemed to retaliate for his son Jarrad not being offered another contract at Cronulla.
He ditched support staff, one of which was Cronulla president Barry Pierce's son Greg, for the Kangaroos tour.
Anderson had said if he did not coach at the NRL level next year, he would reconsider his future in the Australian Test job.
