Gene boost for Giants
Stanley Gene
Former Hull player Gene is now a Giants fans' favourite
Papua New Guinea international Stanley Gene has pledged his future to the relegated Huddersfield Giants by signing a new one-year deal.

Gene decided to stick with the club which he joined on loan from Hull midway through last season.

Huddersfield had to beat off interest from six different clubs, including Halifax Blue Sox and newly-promoted Widnes Vikings.

He did have Super League offers so for us to secure him is a real coup
Giants coach Tony Smith

He will spearhead the Giants' campaign in the Premiership when he returns from Papua New Guinea in the New Year after his wedding.

Head coach Tony Smith said: "Stanley is a key signing for us and I expect him to be a major force in the Premiership.

"He's a real fans' favourite and is the one player that everyone seems to have been asking about.

"He did have Super League offers so for us to secure him is a real coup and demonstrates the belief that he has in us."
