Gillings can only afford to compete in the final two races of the season

Britain's Zoe Gillings was left fuming after a snowboard cross race at a city where the 2018 Winter Olympics could be held was deemed too dangerous.

The International Ski Federation had to cancel the World Cup race in Pyeongchang in South Korea because it was too challenging for the racers.

Gillings, who finished eighth at the 2010 Games, told BBC Sport: "It's very frustrating.

"We have come halfway across the world to compete."

The course was not the one which would be used in the Olympic Games should Pyeongchang win.

The 25-year-old was only able to pay for her trip to South Korea through private donors after UK Sport withdrew her funding, deeming her not to be a potential medallist at the 2014 Games in Sochi, Russia.

Gillings added: "I have been training out here, trying to make the most of a bad situation."

Gillings cannot afford to compete at the next World Cup event in Stoneham, Canada, but will be racing in Italy and Switzerland.

She has only recently returned to competition after knee surgery and finished seventh at the World Snowboard Championships in La Molina, Spain.

Pyeongchang is vying with Annecy in France and Munich in Germany to host the 2018 Winter Olympics. The decision will be made on 6 July.
