Scotland's world champion curling skip David Murdoch has set his sights on completing an historic double at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.

Scotland won the men's World Curling Championship after a dramatic 7-6 victory over hosts Canada.

And Murdoch told BBC Scotland: "This puts us on schedule; we've got a tough year ahead but hopefully this time next year we'll have Olympic gold.

"Canada are the hardest team in the world and we beat them three times."

Murdoch continued: "We were expected to just roll over and be defeated by these guys but this team has a lot of character and we showed a lot of belief. That makes it really sweet.

"It's good to be home. I've been away for over a month now," the ecstatic skip added.

Scotland's triumph came down to the last rock in the 10th end of the final to break a 6-6 tie in the Moncton Arena in New Brunswick, Canada.

It was a second world title in four years for 30-year-old Murdoch, from Lockerbie.

He said of the squad's latest victory: "It was a great marker for us, not just winning, the fact that we played so well against the best team in the world.

"It's a great confidence booster for next season."

His team-mate Ewan MacDonald said after the win: "Unbelievable. We beat these guys three times in three days - but that's what we train for.

"It's absolutely unbelievable."
