Bromley celebrates with his world championship trophy

Britain's Kristan Bromley has become the first bob skeleton slider to win the European, World Cup and World Championship crowns in the same season.

The Sheffield athlete wrapped up the achievement by winning the world championship in Germany on Friday.

"This has been a remarkable season," said Bromley, 35. "To become the first person in history to win the triple crown of titles is as good as it gets."

Bromley is now one of the favourites to win gold at the 2010 Winter Olympics.

The Briton took the world title with an aggregate of four minutes 54.71 seconds over the four heats in Altenberg.

"It's probably my single biggest achievement and it was definitely the hardest race of my career because I was constantly under so much pressure from the other guys.

"We needed to make all the right technical calls and it was very much a team effort. To have won all three titles is probably something that will never be repeated and it makes me incredibly proud."

Bromley attributes much of his success to his ongoing development of a new sled, F1-ice, along with his brother Richard, which he hopes will carry him to the gold medal at the Vancouver Winter Olympics in 2010.

He finished fifth in the 2006 Games in Turin, although his girlfriend Shelley Rudman claimed an unexpected silver medal.

Canada's Jon Montgomery was 0.68 seconds behind Bromley at Friday's event, with German Frank Rommel 0.74 seconds back in bronze.
