Ski-cross and ladies ski jumping are attempting to become Olympic sports at the 2010 Winter Games. They are among five events which will be considered by the International Olympic Committee's executive board at a meeting in November.
The others are a team ski event, individual curling and team luge.
Ski-cross is similar to snowboard-cross, which made its debut at the 2006 Olympics in Turin and was an instant hit with spectators.
The International Ski Federation has backed the ski inclusions and sent a proposal to the IOC to seriously consider them for Vancouver in Canada in four years time.
A statement said: "Snowboard cross delivered some of the most exciting battles for the coveted Olympic medals.
"Given the success of the new Olympic events, the FIS Congress decided to request the IOC executive board consider the inclusion of three new events."
Ladies ski jumping is becoming increasingly popular and since the 2004-05 season competitors have been jumping on the Continental Cup circuit in Europe, USA and Japan.
But FIS is keen to include them at the World Ski Championships and they could be competing as early as 2009.
