 Ahn races ahead of his rivals |
Ahn Hyun-Soo of South Korea won gold in the men's short-track speed skating 1500m on Sunday. The world number one finished 0.259 seconds ahead of compatriot Lee Ho-Suk and China's Li JiaJun.
It was a final that missed defending champion Apolo Anton Ohno, who made a shock error in the semi-finals.
Britain's John Eley did not make the final, while in the women's 500m, Sarah Lindsay reached the quarter-finals and Jo Williams failed in the first heat.
The 1500m men's final was a lively contest and had the added spice of featuring two of the same foursome who fell in an epic 1,000m pile-up four years ago.
Ahn and China's Li Jiajun were among the group who crashed on the final lap, allowing Australia's Steven Bradbury to capture a surprise gold.
It was also revenge for South Korea, who lost the 1,500 gold in 2002 when Kim Dong-sung finished first, but was then disqualified for blocking America's Ohno.
Reflecting on Salt Lake City, Ohno said: "What happened today doesn't change anything that happened four years ago.
"I still feel like I'm a great skater and an Olympic champion. It's like I said about short track - on any given Sunday, anything can happen."
