Aamodt had to settle for fourth in Sunday's downhill event

The 34-year-old withdrew from his defence of the combined title on Tuesday because of a knee injury.

But Aamodt is expected to ski on Saturday, provided he comes through training on Thursday and Friday.

"The plan was to train gently and then a bit harder on Friday - if he comes through that OK then we're quite confident," said a Norway spokesman.

Aamodt, who finished fourth in the downhill in Turin, is the most successful skier in Olympic history with seven medals since 1992.

"He has gone out training a little today (Thursday), but it's difficult because of the conditions," added the spokesman.

"It's not really a bad injury, but the problem is that his knee is still painful, and when it hurts when you're skiing it's obviously not perfect."
