Alfonso Soriano of the Texas Rangers led the votes for the 2004 All-Star Game, Major League Baseball has announced.
Soriano received 3,466,447 votes for the game in Houston on 13 July and he will start at second base for the American League (AL) team.
St Louis Cardinals third baseman Scott Rolen led the way in the National League (NL), picking up 3,187,710 votes.
New York Yankees trio Jason Giambi, Alex Rodriguez and shortstop Derek Jeter join Soriano as AL starters, along with Detroit catcher Ivan Rodriguez and outfielders Manny Ramirez of Boston, Vladimir Guerrero of Anaheim and Ichiro Suzuki of Seattle.
San Francisco slugger Barry Bonds, Ken Griffey Jr of Cincinnati and Sammy Sosa of the Chicago Cubs were all voted to the starting outfield for the NL.
It will be Bonds's 13th All-Star selection, Griffey Jr's 11th and Sosa's seventh.
Among the NL starters voted in was New York Mets catcher Mike Piazza, who was elected to start for the 10th time and will be making his 11th All-Star appearance.
Other NL starters include first baseman Albert Pujols of St Louis, Houston second baseman Jeff Kent and shortstop Edgar Renteria of the Cardinals.
