Hoosiers dump out Duke

Indiana: Into their first regional final since 1993

Defending NCAA champions Duke squandered a 17-point lead in a stunning 74-73 loss to the fifth-seeded Indiana in the NCAA South Regional semi-finals.

In a day of upsets, 12th seeds Missouri dispatched eighth seeds UCLA 82-73 in West Regional semis and Kent State (10) ousted third-ranked Pittsburgh 78-73 in overtime.

Duke (31-4) had a chance to tie the game with 4.2 seconds left, when All-American Jason Williams was fouled after making a long three-pointer to make it 74-73.

But Williams missed the free throw, and Carlos Boozer failed to convert on a follow up shot as time ran out.

It was a sweet victory for second-year coach Mike Davis, as Indiana (23-11) makes its first trip to a regional final since 1993.

Jared Jeffries had 24 points and 15 rebounds for the Hoosiers, while Jarrad Odle added 15 points.

Folding

Boozer led the Blue Devils with 19 points and nine rebounds. Mike Dunleavy added 17 points and Williams 15, but both shot poorly from the field.

Duke had a 29-12 lead 11 minutes into the game and led 42-29 at the half before folding down the stretch.

Indiana now advance to Saturday's South Regional final against Kent State after their stunning upset of Pittsburgh, also at Lexington.

It looked like overtime would not be necessary as the Golden Flashes took a 68-66 lead with 25 seconds left in regulation and then drew a foul.

However, a controversial jump ball call nullified the basket, forcing the extra five minutes.

But Kent State finally prevailed in the extra session, thanks to 22 points from Antonio Gates and 21 points from Trevor Huffman. Julius Page had 21 points for the losers.

In the West Regional semis at San Jose, second seeds Oklahoma got 26 points from Hollis Price, including a season-high six three-pointers, as the Sooners routed Arizona (3) 88-67.

Onslaught

Oklahoma (30-4) now take on the surprising Tigers in the elite eight.

Arizona (24-10), which lost to Duke in last year's NCAA championship game, led 37-33 at the half but wilted under Oklahoma's second-half onslaught.

Jason Gardner led the Wildcats with 14 points. Luke Walton, the son of former UCLA and NBA great Bill Walton, had nine points and seven assists.

Missouri (24-11) got 23 points from Clarence Gilbert, 17 in the second half, to knock the inconsistent Bruins out of the tournament.

Kareem Rush added 20 points to help the Tigers roar to their third upset of the tournament, while Arthur Johnson had 14 points and 13 rebounds.

Missouri, have not been to the final eight since 1994.
