Olympic swimming hopeful Jacob Laybourne has visited the London 2012 site in his role as a Champion Ambassador for the UK School Games. The Shropshire-based swimmer is one of only eight young ambassadors nationally picked as ones to watch for the future. Laybourn, from Bridgnorth, toured the main London venues with the former Minister of Sport, Richard Caborn. He attracted national attention after winning two swimming golds at the 2009 School Games. His club, Bridgnorth Northgate, recently won a £10,000 Lottery grant to equip a new six-lane pool at nearby Much Wenlock, and to help train potential stars of the future. The UK School Games will see 1,600 elite school-aged athletes descend on Newcastle and Gateshead from 2-5 September to compete in swimming and nine other sports.
