Carpenter was one of the stars for Great Britain |
Great Britain's men's water polo team have taken their first step to European Championship qualifying by reaching the semi-finals of the B tournament. They won their fourth game in five so far at the event in Switzerland with a 13-5 victory against Poland. Alex Parsonage and Scott Carpenter led the attack for GB in Lugano. Assistant manager Joanna Wray said: "Throughout the week the team have been very consistent and strong. They never let their opposition control matches." After finishing top of their group, with a one-goal defeat by Georgia their only slip, GB will bypass the quarter-final stage and move straight into the final four. Great Britain's women won their equivalent event in Manchester in July. Whatever their results this weekend, the men have secured a spot at the next qualification tournament at the end of April. The European Championships take place next August in Croatia.
