Miley holds the European record for the 400m individual medley |
Hannah Miley is maintaining a hectic schedule as she prepares for the World Championships in Rome in July. As European 400m individual medley record holder, the 19-year-old from Inverurie is viewed as a medal hope for Team GB at the tournament. But first Miley will contest 10 events at the Scottish National Championships at Tollcross Leisure Centre in Glasgow. Miley, who is trained by her father Patrick, said: "My dad is well known for entering me in lots of races." The Scottish Championships, which take place in Glasgow's east end from 25-28 June, act as the last chance for swimmers to earn a place in the British team for the World Championships next month. Miley, taught to swim by her father at the age of three, clinched her place in the team in March at the British Gas National Championships in Sheffield, winning the individual medley over 200m and 400m and setting new European records in the process. Her 200m record time of 2:09.59 has since been beaten but Miley is still second in the world rankings. Scottish swimming fans will have the chance to cheer her on in the freestyle events from 100m to 1500m, the 200m backstroke, 200m butterfly, 200m breaststroke and the two medleys in which she has excelled. | I really appreciate the support. It's a massive confidence boost Hannah Miley looks forward to the Scottish National Championships |
Miley said: "It's still kind of training for me because I have already done the job I needed to do in March. "I need to keep my high volume and not let it slip. "It also shows I am still having to train through it with the focus on Rome." And on the prospect of competing in front of a home crowd, she added: "I really appreciate the support. "When you are up behind the blocks and hear everybody it's a massive confidence boost and it's one of the things I am looking forward to with London 2012 and Glasgow 2014." While Miley has booked her spot for Rome, for others it is their last chance to shine. They include double Olympic champion Rebecca Adlington in the 400m freestyle, double Commonwealth freestyle champion Caitlin McClatchey, and Olympic finalists Jemma Lowe in the butterfly and Gemma Spofforth and James Goddard in the backstroke.
