McClatchey was close to breaking her own British record |
Caitlin McClatchey won a bronze medal for Great Britain in the 400m freestyle at the Japan International. The Scot, who won two gold medals at the Commonwealth Games, came very close to breaking her own British record at the event in Chiba.
"I'm feeling a little mixed at the moment," the 21-year-old said, after clocking four minutes 07.12 seconds.
City of Edinburgh's Kris Gilchrist broke the Scottish record in the final of the men's 100m breaststroke.
Gilchrist finished sixth with a time of 1:01.47, with Darren Mew, the University of Bath swimmer in seventh place.
Another Scot, Garioch's Hannah Miley, took fifth place in the 400m individual medley.
City of Cardiff's David Davies was fifth in the 400m freestyle, while Kate Heywood pipped British team-mate Kirsty Balfour to fifth in the 100m breaststroke.
Loughborough University student McClatchey was outpaced by Australian Bronte Barratt and Poland's Otylia Jedrzejczak, who clocked 4:05.93 and 4:06.27 respectively.
"It was a good swim but I wanted it to be better and had trained hard to ensure it was," she added.
"It's always nice to win a medal and in such a quality field it feels even better but I wanted a best time, to improve on that British record and take a couple of rivals out in the process.
"If I'd had a better morning swim and an easier lane that may have made a difference but it didn't.
"I gave it a good go, I had people in my sights and a time in my head but I was just shy of those."
City of Glasgow's Rebecca Cooke, who is English, took sixth place for Britain in 4:11.32.
