Tony Ally will compete at the 2007 World Championships |
Tony Ally and Nick Robinson-Baker won the men's 3m synchro event at the British Diving Championships. Lying second going into their final two dives of six, Ally and Robinson-Baker produced their best of the contest to take them the lead in the last round.
In the women's 10m synchro, Tonia Couch and Stacie Powell retained their title with a score of 300.06 in Manchester.
Alley and Robinson-Baker and Couch and Powell then won dive-offs to qualify for next year's World Championships.
Ally, who contemplated retirement following the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne this year, was delighted with the performance of the new-look pairing.
"Nick's been in Sheffield for a year now but has been recovering from shoulder surgery so we've only been together for the past three months," said Ally.
"To perform as well as on our first time out is terrific."
Olympic silver medallist Leon Taylor, who has recovered from a career-threatening shoulder injury, is set to partner Peter Waterfield in the synchronised 10m diving event and the individual platform discipline.
Teams from Greece, the Czech Republic, Poland and Saudi Arabia are competing for the first time in a British Championships.
