GB swimming chief Bill Sweetenham has warned next week's European Championships will present a tougher test than the Commonwealth Games. A strong British team of over 40 swimmers will compete in Budapest from next Monday.
"Next week is going to be much tougher than the Commonwealth Games," said Sweetenham.
"Europe is strong at the moment and the introduction of four-per-nation competitions makes it a powerhouse."
Although each nation can enter four entrants per event, only two can progress beyond the heats.
It means disciplines with strength in depth, such as the men's breaststroke, will see one of the Commonwealth medallists Chris Cook, Darren Mew or James Gibson eliminated.
In the freestyle events, Commonwealth champions Simon Burnett, Ross Davenport and David Carry face tough opposition including Dutch Olympic champion and world record holder Pieter van den Hoogenband
Backstrokers Gregor Tait, Liam Tancock and Matt Clay all feature high in the European rankings as does Kirsty Balfour in the 100m and 200m breaststroke.
Double European Junior champion and Commonwealth medallist Fran Halsall will come up against Olympic and world champion Laure Manaudou of France in the freestyle, as well as GB team-mates Caitlin McClatchey, Mel Marshall and Jo Jackson.
