Caitlin McClatchey celebrates her 400m freestyle gold |
Former Olympic swimming champion David Wilkie has backed Scotland's David Carry and Caitlin McClatchey to clinch gold in Beijing in 2008. Both were double gold medal winners at this year's Commonwealth Games.
"David and Caitlin are two swimmers who have talent and are part of a team with confidence," said Wilkie. "And we can certainly hope they get gold."
Wilkie was in Glasgow to promote September's UK Schools Games in which 1200 youngsters will compete.
The city is also hoping to host the 2014 Commonwealth Games and Wilkie believes the autumn event can aid the bid and help develop athletes of the future.
"The more we can develop sport in Scotland and use events like this to give children of Scotland an opportunity to take part in a high-profile event is absolutely fantastic," he said.

"It is always great to have major sporting events in your own backyard.
"While Edinburgh was very successful in the handling of the Commonwealth Games in 1986, there was never really a structure built affecting the whole of the country and attracting people to sport. It was just an event.
"But I believe Glasgow will be broader as they want to do have general sport in Scotland rather than just have an event in the city."
Wilkie believes that Carry and McClatchey can also provide a springboard to success for others.
Carry, 24, won the Commonwealth 400m title before landing the individual medley gold medal over the same distance in Melbourne.
The 20-year-old McClatchey won both the 200m and 400m freestyle in Australia.
"What I have seen in the past with British and Scottish swimmers is we didn't invest," said Wilkie.
"But now we are doing that and the swimmers can train anywhere in the world and have a great opportunity to get it right. Hopefully, this time, they can."
