Balfour won silver at this year's Commonwealth Games

The 22-year-old added the 200m crown to the 50m and 100m titles she had earlier won at Ponds Forge.

A delighted Balfour said: "It's been a really positive year for me - I've lowered my times by some big margins."

Liverpool's Francesca Halsall defended her 50m freestyle title and in the process ensured herself a spot on the European Championships team.

Halsall set a personal best to win in 25.54 seconds and said: "It was the perfect way to end the last six weeks. I've done quite a few events this week and I'm tired. To end as British champion with a personal best is great though."

Cardiff swimmer David Davies retained his 1500m freestyle title in 15 minutes and 3.43secs while Stockport's James Goddard won the 200m backstroke in one minute 58.45secs - the fastest time in the world this year.

His victory also saw him qualify for the European Championships and he said: "I'm just really enjoying myself and enjoying my swimming at the moment. It's a major part of my life again."

Fifteen-year-old Jessica Dickons of Stockton finished ahead of Birmingham's Terri Dunning to claim the 200m butterfly title.

Darren Mew scooped the 50m breaststroke title to add to the 100m he won earlier in the week, Katy Sexton was triumphant in the 50m backstroke and Jo Jackson claimed the 400m freestyle.

Joe Roebuck collected the 400m individual medley title, Matthew Bowe set a personal best en route to claiming the 100m butterfly and Matthew Tutty won the 50m freestyle.
