Commonwealth champion Gregor Tait was pipped to the 200m individual medley title at the British Championships in Sheffield by Joe Roebuck. The Scot, 26, was overtaken on the final length but said: "It's not really that disappointing to be honest.
"This meet is just about coming and having another good swim, and that is the third fastest I've ever been so I can't complain."
The event is also the trials for July's European Championships in Budapest.
Rebecca Adlington, 17, set a new age group record as she claimed a resounding victory in the 800m freestyle to qualify for the Europeans.
Ross Davenport won the 100m freestyle ahead of defending champion Chris Cozens but was outside the qualifying time in 50.42secs.
