Davies will maintain his fitness by training on land |
David Davies is recovering from surgery on an infected foot which will keep the Commonwealth Games champion out of the swimming pool for a month. But the 21-year-old, who won 1500m freestyle gold in Melbourne, is confident he will be fit for July's European Championships in Budapest.
"It's really frustrating, but I'm staying positive," said Davies.
"It could have been so much worse if I hadn't had it seen when I did - the pain was pretty unbearable."
Medical experts believe the infection has been dormant in his body for some weeks, and Davies is thankful the problem became apparent when it did.
He said: "The timing could have been a lot worse as the World Championships are next March and the Olympic Games the year after that - the two major competitions for me.
"I will miss being in the pool but will keep fit on land with my foot in a cast for the time being."
